We are glad to see METU Psychology Society webpages in the Internet once again after years! Recently, we are meeting at least once in 2 weeks and carrying out seminars and talks about contemporary issues in Psychology. Our administrative team consists of highly motivated undergraduates; our members too. We have a large range of member profile having fairly different academic backgrounds. Some of them are engineering students, some are working on social sciences.

Why?

Psychology is part of our lives. In the last century, psychology assumed an increasingly important role in how we think about human behavior and how we try to solve human problems. At the begginning of a new century -indeed a new millennium- we turn to psychology for scientific research and advice on a wide array of issues. Some of these issues have broad social implications, some of them are pure scientific research. We, as psychology students, are the amateurs having a professional motivation to explore the answers of main stream psychology questions and to inform lay people about what psychology is. How does the memory run? How do we understand and perceive each other? What is identity and its subparticles? How do we learn and develop an understanding of the world? Who is Pavlov, Skinner, Hull, Watson and Lewin? We are looking for friends to help us to find the answers of these questions!

In Turkey, the society doesn't know what psychology is. This is most probably because psychology have a very short history, especially in Turkey. It has 70 years scientific background and 40 years applied background. The importance of Psychology, as an independent science, is increasing day by day both in our country and all over the world. The professional psychologists are working in a very broad range from industry to traffic. To increase the respect through psychologists and psychology, we take it as a mission to inform the society about Psychological Science and Professions!
